EdSun EIC

Word from out Alberta way is the Edmonton Sun is having a difficult time finding someone to accept the vacant editor in chief post.

"Word is the Edmonton Sun cannot find anyone to accept the position of editor in chief, either inside or outside Sun Media," says a TSF tipster.

"They've been advertising on Jeff Gaulin's site for months and have virtually no replies except from the odd journo school recent grad. Sad eh?"

Thanks for the update. The Edmonton Sun front has been quiet for months. All of TSF's tipsters have left the building.

  1. LMAO. We had an editor position advertised not too long ago at our daily in Ontario and word is there were hardly any applicants. It's hilarious that some of the wizards at the top who are scratching their heads over the lack of interest probably have no idea that 'they' are part of the problem .... people just don't want to work with some of these managers

  3. It took quite a well for someone to fill the prepress manager's position at Welland Tribune because nobody wanted it. They didn't have a manager in the department for approximately 2 years or so.

  4. There is still a prepress manager in Welland? I thought all the Tribune's (Review's, Standard's) prepress functions were taken care of by Woodstock.

  5. Nope, there is still a manager and eight staff left. They do print/online ads for Trib and other papers.

  6. The hiring process at Welland Tribune is questionable at best. A few years ago, they offered the job to someone from a well-known hotel chain, which is why they fired the previous prepress manager. However, following the firing, the job position was turned down. So the department was left without a manager for two years until the current prepress manager was hired.

    Work ethics is also a real issue. They didn't have a time-clock for years until a couple years ago. Once installed, a few employees started buddy-clocking. The reason why they got away with it was because the prepress manager often was nowhere to be seen. So you can see why some people would take the opportunity to buddy-clock.

  8. Buddy-clocking happens in a hell of a lot of places and it can very easy to get away with whether a manager is there or not.
    Guess that poster has never worked anywhere it has been done.

    Welland isn't as bad as it's being made out to be here. Find me one paper that doesn't have the same kind of issues/problems.

  9. It doesn't change the facts though.

    Stealing time from a company is something that shouldn't be condoned at any given time. Trying to making something seems like it's not as bad doesn't make it any better. Theft is theft.

  10. I guess Anonymous 10:40 is the model employee, always on time, never leaving early, never checking personal e-mail on company computers and so forth.
    Good to know there are perfect people out there.
