A salute to The 62
Mike McCabe didn't write the words, he got them delivered across the city. His 15 years at the Tely paid off. Mike later moved from circulation manager to manager of the tabloid's fleet - a Cadillac and two VWs. He also coached the Sun's softball team. It was Mike's affable nature and driving skills that led him to become Doug Creighton's chauffeur and confidant. Mike was no stranger to the Sun's second-floor newsroom and receptionist Sharon caught his eye. For their 1991 wedding, Doug played chauffeur. On May 30, 2006, two years after mourning Doug's death, Mike suffered a fatal heart attack in his Fort Erie-area home. The father of four was 76. Every May 30, Sharon, his second wife, places an In Memoriam ad in the Sun. Not that Sun vets will soon forget Mike McCabe.
