In the light

Confirm or deny.

"Dave's termination was directly associated to Brad Honywill's return to the newsroom from his (SONG) union job," says an anonymous TSF reader.

That might explain the departure of Dave Ellis

Now why was Rob Granatstein, a 17-year Toronto Sun vet targeted and turfed as editorial page editor?

  1. Are you kidding me? Why do you repeat this drivel without checking first. You know how to reach Brad. Brad is now a staff rep with CEP 87M. He is not in the newsroom.

  2. And a second fact: When Dave took the position of Sunday editor, his job was not dependent on Brad's return or not. Dave was a manager. Brad's position is a union job and it hasn't been filled since Dave was made management. This was a poor attempt at mischief making. C'mon TSF. Ask the questions first before posting it.

  3. I could be wrong but I believe Brad Honywill has moved onward and upward at the union and will not be returning to the Toronto Sun newsroom ever. I think the "just business" excuse is the best fit — although it is a lousy reason to chop these two.

  4. Deny. Brad left his elected post as president of local 87-M of CEP to take a staff position at the local, replacing Howard Law, who got hired as a CEP National rep. While Dave did fill Brad's vacant newsroom spot for a while a few years back, he was in a management role when he left the Sun.

  5. Emailed Brad before posting and received a message that he was on vacation. We threw it out there and now we know two Sun newsroom management types were shown the door for their paycheques.

  6. Isn't it funny how quickly the three union reps jumped on this? Wouldn't one union response be sufficient? Seems the union is a little too defensive. Also, if two managers were restructured you have to wonder what is next for the union members.

  7. This site should be called Union Family not Toronto Sun Family.

A Union Rep expects the blogger to check with another Union Rep before posting and whines about it because they didn't.

  8. Yes, 4:43, journalism is about verifying facts before publishing them. Protesting because the facts are wrong isn't whining. It is about demanding the standards of journalism at least remain at a minimum. This is about the simple rules of journalism. Ask the questions before something is aired in public. Do not publish unsubstantiated rumours most likely launched by a dolt who knows nothing and is trying to blame the union for this mess.
TSF knows how to reach me as well as Brad. TSF knows how to reach Jim Slotek. We're not on vacation, so that's a lame excuse, TSF.

As for what's next for union members, Sun publisher Mike Power assures me there's nothing planned that will affect the newsroom.

And really, show some balls and identify yourselves before crying about how react to bullshit.

  9. It was funny, but not remarkable that we'd all chime in at the same time. We don't all live together and each independently reacted to a blatant untruth. And quick is best. You know the old saying (usually attributed to Mark Twain), "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."

  10. Rob may be right about the union at the Sun, but don't think he speaks for everyone in the Sun chain. TSF will be very busy in the next few months keeping track of all those "moving on" courtesy of cost cutting moves

  11. If you want some job security, you should apply to work in Timmins. With only two reporters, seems like it would be pretty hard to lay either of them off.
