A salute to The 62:
Peter John Vickers Worthington, co-founder and founding editor of the Toronto Sun, remains on the job in 2011 as a well-read op-ed columnist. The Korean war vet's 15 globe-trotting years as a foreign correspondent for the Toronto Telegram prepared him for the Sun's uphill battle for a slice of the unique Toronto print media pie. Peter, who was born in a Winnipeg army camp, turns 85 on Feb. 16, 2012. From sports reporting for the Ubyssey at the University of British Columbia, to news reporting at the Vancouver Province, Toronto Telegram (hired by Art Cole in 1956 as a night reporter) and the Sun, the four-time National Newspaper Award winner and author of Looking For Trouble (1984) has done it all and then some.

He could very well be now that Edgar Dunning, another former boss of this blogger, died in October 2010 at 100. He was still writing for the Ladner Optimist in B.C. on his 100th birthday on Jan. 7, 2010. He was a gem of a man.
