Sun Media execs have been called on to multi-task in recent years, but a five-in-one publisher could be a record.
Maureen Spence, a Winnipeg Sun ad sales staffer for more than 20 years, has been named group publisher for the following weeklies:
The Selkirk Journal;
Stonewall Argus and Teulon Times;
The Interlake Spectator;
The Lac du Bonnet Leader;
The Beausejour Review.
She moves from advertising sales manager to her new Interlake papers job immediately.
Spence says in a Winnipeg Sun story she is looking forward to the challenges.
Record? At five newspapers? Hardly. During the nineties, I was group publisher for BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan which numbered over 30 publications at the time. Those Manitoba publications eventually fell under our umbrella as well. Before retirement I oversaw over 45 papers in Alberta alone.

I can't believe PKP isn't keeping her as Advertising Manager at the Sun as well as this new position....what's wrong with six hats?
ReplyDeleteWith respect, I think this is different though Don. Didn't all those papers have publlshers? In this case five papers are sharing one publisher and I'm sure that could be a record. Groupies are a different animal are they not?
ReplyDeleteNancy Middleton is group publisher for Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, Nanton, Vulcan, High River, Hanna, Strathmore, Airdrie, Banff and Canmore. Does she win?
ReplyDeleteHate to spoil everyone's anti-PKP rants with facts, but ...
ReplyDeleteThe five weeklies Spence is now in charge of are collectively known as Interlake Publishing — an umbrella company under Sun Media which for decades has had one common publisher.
