An e-mail from Bill Sandford, a former Toronto Sun photographer and now a freelancer working out of Barrie:
"I knew things were bad at the Sun when I noticed the boxes were disappearing off the streets of Barrie, a microcosm of Sun readers. A lot of people who live in Barrie and its environs commute to jobs in the GTA.
"They buy a Sun from a box along with their Timmies before hitting the 400, and probably account for at least 50% of sales in Simcoe County.
"Any boxes that are left on the street are rusting, just like the Sun's reputation. They are not being serviced on a daily basis and are a symptom of low circulation figures."
Thank you for your e-mail, Bill.
