The Brantford Expositor lost eight employees in Tuesday's carnage.
The papers says the layoffs cut four editorial positions, one non-union reader sales position, one in customer service, one in advertising and one non-union position in the business office.
Most layoffs take effect Jan. 14, although two took effect immediately, the paper says. The paper had 102 employees before the layoffs.
"We've had to make some very difficult decisions in some very difficult times in an already challenged newspaper industry," Expositor publisher Mike Walsh said following the announcement.
"These layoffs do not reflect on the people or employees impacted. They have all contributed greatly to the Expositor during their years of service to the newspaper."
